I am going nuts here. I have laid on my couch here since last Thursday and I need human interaction. I am bored silly. The doctor told me today that I am doing 'better than expected' and that while I still can't drive through the weekend and still need to get plenty of sleep and rest for the next three weeks, I am free to have visitors and conversations and whatever. As long as I don't 'work', I am free to do other relaxing things.
My throat is exceptionally sore and swollen because he pulled everything to the side in order to do the surgery and also because he moved some muscles in order to 'strengthen the core'. I also was placed with my neck and upper chest on a sandbag with additional sand bags pressed down on either shoulder to hyper-extend the neck area so the muscles in my shoulder blades are wonderfully, achy sore. He believes he did 'great work' and is very proud of his work. I have zero shoulder pain though he thought I might yet encounter 'phantom pain'. The nerve restoration is going swimmingly and he said I am much stronger than he thought I'd be. He said he guarantees complete recovery. I am not to work for three weeks at which time I can resume light duty. I do not have to wear a brace and can bend, stretch, and use my neck anyway I want.
So here is my request:
Call.
Come visit.
E-mail.
Text.
If you come visit, I tire fast. If I doze off don't be offended. We have cats so be prepared to sneeze. If you come after eight-thirty at night Kathy will be in bed and I will be a bit groggy but still happy to see you. If you come at breakfast, lunch, or dinner I ain't cooking so you are on your own. You may pray for me in person, on the phone, by e-mail, whatever. I love prayer. I will be slightly more entertaining to talk to when I am on the morphine but I am weaning myself off all pain medication so the fun times will soon be over. Don't bring presents or cards or flowers or anything. Just bring yourselves and your lovely smiles. I miss them. It takes me a moment to get to the door sometimes and I may need you to carry the conversation a bit when my throat goes nuts, but I would love to be rescued from staring at the television and playing Mafia Wars and Scrabble on the computer.
Love,
Your bored pastor,
Rod |
