Subject: Rest
You come to me with tenderness –
My heart cannot comprehend.
A gentle caress against my skin
Where knife and blade have attacked.
Succulent kisses upon my breast,
Receiving the scars of time past.
You offer rest in Your arms,
A rest so complete, so full of peace.
It is beyond my simple understanding.
This body has had pain and suffering for so long;
The tenderness seems so foreign, unreal.
I doubt its purity, its lasting qualities.
Could I deserve such things?
Fighting against the rest, the good
That keeps flowing endlessly from You.
I try to return to darkness,
Fleeing from the mystery of love,
But I crave, desire the embrace,
Long for it more than comfort.
Your words within my ears,
Telling me the sweetness we have,
Showing me who I really am.
You redeem the darkened years
As I struggle to rest. |
