I was idling at the drive-through window,
Ordering my second cheeseburger of the day.
And a Big, Bubbling Coke.
Thinking of the salty-goodness of the buger,
And the fuzzy, cool-sweetness of the coke
Going into me.

Trying to fill something bigger than my stomach.

It was then you whispered those words to me:
"My flesh is real food and my body is real drink."
But I did not listen,
I stuck with the burger.
Not sure you would satisfy.

You were right though.
The damn burger didn't even taste good.
It was a rubbery, greasy, sham of a sandwich.
However, the Coke was quite good thank-you-very-much.

So now I sit here,
My stomach full.
My wallet a little less so.
And my soul?
Still hungry.

I like any poetry that has an un-cliched inspiration. I especially like the "fuzzy cool sweetness" line.

Too bad you didn't order the $6 Burger. ;-)

It was McDonalds. Probably dead last on my prefrence list of fast food establishments. However, in my expert opinion they do have the tastiest and most consistent batch of Coke on tap ANYWHERE. Doesn't matter if you're in Tucson or Tacoma. The Coke is good. The burgers on the other hand....well what can you expect for .99?
Speaking of Coke, did anyone get a chance to pick up some special issue "Kosher Coke," made especially for the passover season? Apparently it is made with real sugar and not corn syrup or whatever they use now...just like the original recipe. Sold only in two-liter bottles, I believe it is distingished by its yellow cap.
mmmm....I'm making myself thirsty. Maybe you'll see at McDonald's :)

Hey, I thought I was the only one who had a thing for McD's Coke. I am definitely a fountain Coke fan, too. I have been known to go to the Speedway & Alvernon McD's just to sit and feed my carbon dioxide/corn syrup addiction. Just once in a while, though, because just being next door to the Empress Theater can give me the willies--especially if there's no one with me to distract me--and besides, I don't really need those 550 empty calories from drinking 2-3 refills.

When I was living in Georgia an hour from Atlanta (the birthplace of the stuff), I worked for a woman who was friends with an elderly woman whose grandfather had purchased stock when Coca Cola first went public. Many stock splits later...is that what they call it? I should ask my dad, the financial planner...the guy's granddaughter ended up a quite wealthy woman. :-)

Not a lot of Pepsi is sold in GA, by the way. And "coke" is a general term for soda pop in the South, like "kleenex" is used for, um, facial tissue. (But who calls it that??)
