This morning it seemed like Elliott had a severe spider bite and had fever, redness and a lot of swelling. Sue took him to the ER and they now think he has a staff infection which might be Mersa [a kind of staff infection that is resistant to antibiotics]. He's being admitted to the hospital and will probably be in for a day or two. Please pray for him and the doctors and Eric, Sue and Ashton. If you want more information, call me [Julie] on my cell phone as Sue and Eric are busy with hospital stuff.

The latest I've heard is that the infectious disease doctor believes that Elliott has a strep-strain of staph, probably not the mersa-strain and that he thinks the antibiotics that they have him on should take care of either.

Looks like Elliott is responding to the antibiotics and is improving. He'll stay in the hospital for a couple days to continue the IV-antibiotics.

Hey, Everybody!
Thanks for your prayers & concern.
Elliott's doing great today. Now we're just dealing with our own fatigue that comes from juggling this kind of a hospital stay, and trying to entertain a now-energetic, bored baby in a crib. Not a bad place to be after yesterday morning.

Things continue to look fairly good today. Elliott's in about the same shape as he was yesterday, albeit a bit more cranky after another night of too little sleep. He'll be starting on an oral version of the medication this afternoon, and they'll keep him overnight to see if he actually takes it (it's supposed to taste REALLY bad) and how he responds. So hopefully we'll be outta there tomorrow morning. They're still watching the rash and the infection site as well to make sure these continue to resolve.

I don't know what that title means, but my mom used to say it sometimes when we'd pull into the driveway.
Anyway, we are home again. I had a nice morning of solitude yesterday, waiting for discharge orders while Elliott slept. We got out in the afternoon, and he has been very happy to be home and free to run around. Eric & I are also happy to be home and free to run around.
Elliott seems to be feeling much better, and he made it home for his first birthday (today)!

It's from a nursery rhyme...
*****
To market, to market
to buy a fat pig.
Home again, home again
Jiggity jig!

To market, to market
to buy a fat hog.
Home again, home again
Jiggity jog!
*****
Not sure how the swine feel about all this jiggity jogging.

When we were in Page for our vacation we went with Kathy's cousin's kids to feed and care for the pigs the kids are raising for 4H club. They got the oinkers out of their sheds and sprayed water on the ground so the big bad wolf targets would have some mud to roll around in. Then they chased them back and forth down an alleyway to get them some heavy duty exercise. Apparently they only want muscle on these swine and little or no fat. I like my bacon and pork chops lean, but I didn't realize you had to have the daily 'running of the pigs' to make it so. Apparently huffing and puffing is not just for wolves anymore. I am not just being a ham either, this really happened.
